According to the Department of Trade & Industry, ‘procurement of locally manufactured products is one of the levers identified by government to support Industrial Development’.
To this end, S.A.M.E. Water has developed an established and diversified manufacturing base within the country’s water industry and has distinguished itself amongst its peers, demonstrating innovation and resilience in the local economy.

History

  • 1960’s

    Founded in 1966 by Willi Schulz and Hans Adler, S.A.M.E. began fabrication and installation of water and wastewater treatment equipment.

  • 1970’s

    Willi and Hans decided to move in to contracting themselves. S.A.M.E. designed and manufactured the first bio-filter equipment in South Africa and started manufacturing clarifier and chemical dosing equipment. A deal was concluded between S.A.M.E. and Schrage, Germany for the manufacture of local screening equipment and that same year grit removal technology was purchased from Germany.

  • 1980’s

    A deal was signed with Trummer Germany to produce their Screw Pumps locally.

  • 1990’s

    First screw compactor for the South African market and the design and manufacture of a local step screen.

    Spiral technology was brought to South Africa.

    seven year manufacturing deal was signed with Mahr Maschinen Bau, Austria, for the local manufacture of head of works fine screening equipment.

    Willi Schulz retired and moved to Cape Town and a few years later S.A.M.E. opened a Cape Town office.

  • 2000’s

    S.A.M.E. began manufacturing sluice gates and also acquired technology for vertical linear mixing.

  • 2000’s

    Tender process started changing and clients started specifying a full scope of mechanical supply. As a result, S.A.M.E. started looking at complete wastewater equipment supply, including belt press sludge dewatering equipment.

    A division was started in 2007 for inland hydraulic dredging equipment.

  • 2010’s

    Len and Manuela van der Made have since retired and the third generation have now joined the company.

    S.A.M.E. Water awarded its biggest contract since inception, Central Work Acid mine drainage.

    Opened an electrical division to fulfil the demand for electrical instrumentation supply on their equipment.

    A decision is made to Split the Company into three individual companies under the S.A.M.E Group. S.A.M.E Water, S.A.M.E Manufacturing and S.A.M.E Dredging.

    2016 Marks the 50th year of S.A.M.E.
