Sludge twister provides a simple cost effective solution for dewatering or sludge thickening on small to medium effluent treatment plants. The designed system can function manually in continuous mode or intermittently in automatic function. Sludge dewatering of 20-25% or sludge thickening of 10 – 15% DS is achievable.
Various manufactures’ flocculants may be used and the system can be supplied with or without preparation plant to suit requirements. Sludge thickening or dewatering requires initial mixing and flocculation of the incoming sludge using an appropriately selected polyelectrolyte. Polyelectrolyte can be supplied as dry solids, beads, emulsion or solutions.
DESIGN
The Sludge Twister main frame is conveyor type U trough which has a fixed stainless steel wedge wire circular drum screen fitted in it, with a rotating screw rotating in the wedge wire drum. Flocculated sludge enters the inlet chamber at the base of the U-trough and into the circular drum zone where it conveys by screw up to the discharge section, and in this process the sludge is gradually dewatered or thickened.
Liquid waste is drained through the circular drum screen and gravitates to the bottom outlet discharged for further treatment. Wash water spray nozzles provide intermittent water to the circular screen sections, washing will not always be necessary. When the dewatered sludge is pushed into the discharge section / zone it will be discharged into a conveyor or waste bin for disposal.
